Country Girl With The Kind Face

Today I considered whether or not I fitted into a ‘tribe’ and my instinctive response was ‘No! Of course I’m not.’ because I was naive to think that having the variety of interests or sense of style that I follow makes me an individual- which is somewhat true. There is and will only ever be one of myself, and everyone else, which is a ridiculous fact that often blows my mind. However, I am not the ‘one-of-a-kind’ person I’d like to think I am. Interestingly, am sat amongst several other students everyday all coming from different paths and all having experienced different things yet I’m confident I could find something in common with almost, if not all of them.

Fitting into a ‘tribe’ is more than explicitly showing yourself to fit into the generic groups you think of- punk, indie etc. It can be as simple as relating to people. For example, I was reading about Humanitarianism earlier, and I’ll admit I’m not often taking part in voluntary trips and feeding the poor, the basic principles behind it I can understand. Sometimes I think people are so caught up in religion and what potentially happens after that they would forget to be good to each other in the life we’re in. Similarly, I don’t appear as a Debbie Harry lookalike straight out of the New Romantic era- but I wish I did.IMG_1958

As part of thinking about ‘identity’, I got to know Marilla and what she related to, what she was ‘made up of’ so to speak. This image is one I’ve taken to capture this, I’ve named the images ‘Country Girl with the Kind Face’ as her beaming, infectious smile was something I had said I had first noticed upon meeting her- and I was informed I was not the first person to make that statement. I also thought about the location of one of the images being amongst the riverside and displaying plants- as a take on the ‘country girl’ placed in her new home in the Big Smoke.
